The Congress-led Telangana government has unveiled new measures under the Mahalakshmi Yojana aimed at enhancing the welfare of women. Earlier, the government had introduced financial assistance through the scheme, providing ₹2500 per month to each female head of household. Now attracting women voters hoping to improve their performance in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, a new welfare scheme for women has been announced.
With the welfare of women a top priority, the government has taken various steps to show its commitment to the issue. The Congress has vowed to implement these policies if it wins power in the central government through Lok Sabha elections.
Among the highlights of the Congressional Declaration are important guarantees for women. This includes an annual financial assistance of ₹1 lakh for low-income women, and a commitment to make at least 50% of government jobs and hotels available to women
In addition, the Congress has assured financial assistance of ₹1 lakh directly into the bank accounts of beneficiaries, as well as a promise to extend reservation quota for women in various government jobs. In addition, the hope is that the salaries of Anganwadi workers and midday cooks will be hiked considerably, with the central government doubling its allocation in their salaries.
Recognizing the importance of protecting women’s legal rights, the government plans to provide legal assistance to women by appointing officials at the panchayat level under the Adhikar Mitri scheme.
In line with its focus on comprehensive women’s development, the government aims to address accommodation challenges faced by working women. As part of this effort, a hostel for working women will be established in every district, supported by the Savithri Bhai Phule Hostel Scheme, with the goal of bolstering the workforce participation of women across the country.
